Corrections Lieutenant

Salary Range: $25.89 to $37.49 per hour; $54,058 to $78,279 per year

Work Locations: Positions may occur at Minnesota Correctional Facilities located in Faribault, Lino Lakes (Twin Cities Suburbs-North), Moose Lake/Willow River, Oak Park Heights, Red Wing, Rush City, St. Cloud, Shakopee, Stillwater, and Togo.

Job Duties: Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities for a staff of Corrections Officers in a designated unit or particular work shift. Coordinate all security and program functions including policy interpretation and/or development for the unit(s) supervised. May serve as the Officer in Charge of Institution.

Minimum Qualifications:

1) Two years work experience as a Corrections Officer 3/Corrections Canine Officer (work-out-of-class experience qualifies); OR

2) Two years work experience as a Corrections Security Caseworker, Corrections Program Therapist, Investigation Specialist or equivalent professional-level work experience in a correctional facility AND two years work experience as a Corrections Officer 2; OR

3) Two years of supervisory/managerial experience directing a program/unit within a correctional setting and two years work experience as a Corrections Officer 2.

In addition, verbal and written communication skills are assessed and employee work records are reviewed, including a review of employee work performance and discipline records and completion of annual training requirements.

Training Requirements for Corrections Lieutenant: You have completed the 40 hour minimum annual training requirement which includes all DOC mandatory training for the past two fiscal years. This must include 4 hours of training credit in each of the previous two fiscal years in topic areas related to harassment prevention, diversity and/or human relations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or a related degree program.

Experience supervising inmate/client living units or corrections program services/activities/security sufficient to plan, organize and direct the work of subordinate staff in a correctional setting, including experience in conducting investigations and labor/management relations.

A minimum of four years experience working as a Corrections Officer 3/Corrections Canine Office, Corrections Security Caseworker, Corrections Program Therapist, Investigations Specialist or related.

Experience working in a wide variety of correctional lead work assignments, such as squad, living units, segregation, discipline unit, property, control center, truck gate, visiting, SOG (Special Operations Group)or Special Operations Response Team (SORT).

Experience in a command role during emergency response ICS; demonstrated experience in SORT/SOG, Conflict Resolution Initiative (CRI), Field Training Officer (FTO), training, mentoring, diversity, recruitment, etc.
