Corrections Agent Senior Promotional Process
1. A Department of Corrections (DOC) corrections agent may request a non-competitive promotion to corrections agent, senior after meeting the following requirements
a) Completion of two years of employment as a corrections agent with the DOC or another corrections delivery system, and successful completion of the probationary period as a DOC corrections agent;
b) Possession of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in corrections, counseling, criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, social work, law enforcement or a human services related field;
c) Performance reviews during the past two years indicating that the corrections agent fully meets the standards in each area of responsibility;
d) No current discipline;
e) Demonstrated meeting minimal standards in the use of an approved research-validated risk/needs tool. Minimal standards is determined by an inter-accuracy rating of 80 percent or higher in the latest statewide proficiency scoring of the Youth Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (YLS/CMI) or Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (LS/CMI); and
f) A minimum of one review of Integrated Principles of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) by the agent's supervisor. The supervisor evaluates the agent's performance as satisfactory or excellent in the majority of the following areas:

(3) Interview stages;
(5) Normative feedback;
(6) Evocation; and
2. Supervisor responsibilities
a) The supervisor completes the Integrated Principles of EBP, Field Safety, and Management, and provides a copy of the evaluation to the agent. In order for the recommendation for promotion to proceed, the supervisor must attest to the agent’s ability, and the evaluation must contain only minimal deficiencies.
b) The supervisor submits a human resources management (HRM) transaction request form (TRF) for approval by his/her regional manager and the field services (FS) director.
3. HRM responsibilities
HRM staff must review the information submitted in the TRF request to verify the employee’s eligibility to promote via reclassification to corrections agent, senior, and may request additional information and clarification on the information received.
a) If HRM approves the request, the HRM staffing unit notifies the employee and the requesting supervisor/manager of the promotion.
b) If HRM denies the request, the HRM staffing unit notifies the requesting supervisor/manager in writing, provides rationale for the decision, and provides information related to the ability to appeal the promotional decision in accordance with DOC Policy 103.010, “Classification and Position Review.”
