MCF-STW was built in 1914 and is the state's largest close-security facility for adult male felons. Average daily population is 1,277 and full-time staff size is approximately 550. The facility's two primary missions are to protect the public by incarcerating serious, chronic and dangerous offenders and to provide industrial, academic, vocation and rehabilitative opportunities to inmates.
Description
This is a unique opportunity in which the internship will expose the intern to different reading and education levels. As an intern in this position you will assist the librarian with projects for a small offender library (10,000 copies). Projects will include programming, patron surveys, reader's advisory and collection development. Interns will work with Follett OPAC software. Position will include some direct offender contact.
Supervision
The intern will be supervised by the MCF- Stillwater Librarian.
Requirements
The intern must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program that offers course credit for internships. Applicants should have an interest in corrections, correctional library systems, and library science. Preferred: A graduate student currently enrolled in a Library and Information Science program, or a high level undergraduate student majoring in Library Science, Information Science, Public Administration, Public Affairs, pre- law, legal studies, correctional education, multicultural Studies, or has taken courses in the Library Science field.
Length of Internship
Negotiable and flexible/12 weeks and minimum of 24 hours per week is desired.
