Minnesota DOC Searching for Absconded Individual from Work Crew

The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC)is working to locate an incarcerated man who absconded from a community work crew assignment earlier today in Plymouth, Minnesota.

The individual has been identified as Michael L. Vang, 41. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, approximately 190 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. https://coms.doc.state.mn.us/publicviewer/OffenderDetails/Index/243532/Search

Vang was assigned to an Institution Community Work Crew (ICWC) based out of the Minnesota Correctional Facility–Lino Lakes. He was classified as minimum custody, making him eligible to participate in the work crew program. Vang is currently serving a sentence out of Hennepin County for a weapons possession offense.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., Vang removed his GPS monitoring device and fled from the job site.

Local law enforcement agencies, along with the DOC’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit, are actively working to locate him.

Investigators believe Vang may have received assistance from an individual who provided transportation from the vicinity of the work site. Anyone who knowingly assists Vang, aids in concealing his whereabouts, or otherwise supports his escape may be subject to criminal prosecution.
