DHS provides information on assistive technology and offers hands-on demonstration labs with equipment, such as amplified telephone, TTYs, signaling devices and assistive listening devices. DHS also offers videotapes on a variety of topics related to hearing loss for loan or rental.
DHS, in partnership with Consumer Directions, serves adults and families with children who are deafblind. Individuals receive a grant allocation to purchase services or goods they need to maintain their independence, integrate into their families or communities and/ or develop communication skills.

Intervener and family communication services are available for children who are deafblind. These services help children with development of communications skills and learning and help families development effective communications strategies with the child in the family who is deafblind. DHS has a contract with Lifetrack Resources to provide the Deaf Mentor Family program. This program helps families by teaching American Sign Language, early visual communication methods and deaf culture. A trained deaf mentor is assigned to the family. A statewide mental health response team helps deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing adults acquire accessible mental health services within their community. This team is composed of professional staff fluent in American Sign Language and experienced in providing the following mental health services to people with hearing loss:

Community placement assistance
Individual and family consultation

Children's mental health services
Mental health services are available for children and adolescents who are deaf living in the Twin Cities and St. Cloud areas and are coping with emotional behavioral disorders and/or mental illness. DHS and the Department of Commerce provide a comprehensive statewide outreach program to educate Minnesotans about Minnesota Relay services.
