Early education for children. Job training for adults. Utility assistance for seniors. By connecting residents to these services and benefits, Minnesota’s Community Action Agencies provide thousands of children, families and seniors with greater opportunity, transforming their lives and making communities stronger.
During Community Action Month this May, DHS is thanking the staff and volunteers who make Community Action Agencies such a vital resource for Minnesota families. The department supports Community Action Agencies and the services they provide, as it oversees many of the programs that agencies are involved with, including Parent Aware, child care assistance (PDF), Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota (PDF), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (PDF) and more.
Agencies act as locally governed nonprofits that promote economic security and help break the cycle of poverty by providing funding for services, support and skill development, and information to Minnesotans with low incomes.
