The Minnesota Department of Human Services is seeking nominations for its  first annual Outstanding Refugee Awards to celebrate the strength, courage and resilience of people who have had refugee status in Minnesota or are the children of refugees, and to recognize their contributions to our state.

Outstanding individuals will be recognized in each region, and awards will be announced this summer.  Awards will be presented in three categories:
  • Entrepreneurship Award: Recognizes individuals who have had refugee status, or their children, who are making innovative contributions to their community in business, the arts or education.
  • Civic Leadership Award: Recognizes individuals who have had refugee status, or their children, who are outstanding leaders in their community.
  • Youth Leadership Award: Recognizes youth who have had refugee status, or are the children of refugees, who are young leaders in their community.
The Resettlement Programs Office will accept online nomination submissions until midnight on May 25, 2017.
