Deputy Commissioner for Policy
Claire Wilson is deputy commissioner for Policy, appointed by Commissioner Tony Lourey on Jan. 16, 2019. Wilson oversees the department's policy administrations – Children and Family Services, Health Care, Community Supports and Continuing Care, as well as External Relations, which includes DHS's equity work. Previously she served as assistant commissioner for the Community Supports Administration and served as interim assistant commissioner for the Continuing Care for Older Adults Administration.
Wilson has more than two decades of experience in public policy and related issues. Wilson came to DHS June 13, 2016, from the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Programs, where she served as executive director. In that role, she provided strategic and administrative leadership, creating coalitions of stakeholders to advance improvements in mental health. She has also served in a leadership role for the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, where her work included outreach to underserved communities. In addition, she was a 2013 Humphrey Policy Fellow at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
