Toua Vang, a service desk analyst, works for MNIT Services at the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS). At the service desk, Vang takes calls from department staff, helping them resolve issues with technology.
Prior to working at the department, Vang worked at Thomson Reuters as a help desk representative supporting small- to medium-sized law firms on the company’s legal applications. He also worked at EMC as a hardware representative, monitoring server alerts from different companies and dispatched technicians and resources as needed.
Originally from Laos, Vang and his family arrived in California in the early 1980s. Vang said that his and other refugee families “had to adjust quickly to how things work.” With the help of “some great neighbors, the older family members were able to find jobs and the children went to school,” he said. From personal experience, Vang said that when working with refugees it’s important to “take your time explaining everything.”
Vang enjoys spending time with his family, going camping and fishing, and sightseeing in Minnesota. “This year the plan is to head up to the northwest part of the state,” said Vang.
