Julie Kahn

Office & Administrative Specialist Principal

Julie joined the GWDB and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development's Workforce System Coordination Division early in 2017. Her communication, statistical and mathematical skills combined with her organizational and project management skills make her a vital member of our GWDB team. Her background in the healthcare, construction and natural resources industries align with three of the five statewide industry sector partnership categories that the GWDB identified in its Strategic Plan.

In the healthcare sector, Julie is a Licensed Practical Nurse and has professional experience in direct patient care in hospital and transitional care settings. Prior to her nursing career, Julie worked for a number of businesses in the construction industry. Her experience includes working directly with the CFO as an Assistant Project Manager on construction projects with cities, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and other federal, local and county entities. At Weis Builders, Julie was the Senior Project Coordinator for the National Construction Department. Across this industry, Julie's responsibilities included administrative duties with estimating, transmittals, project spreadsheets, Equal Employment Opportunity, Human Rights, Labor Relations, Payroll, Reporting, Health and Safety and Process Improvement.

Julie began her career at Marathon Ashland Petroleum and provided advance administrative support to the Environmental Health and Safety Department. Her responsibilities included being part of a team that designed, developed and implemented a program to track OSHA regulated changes. She was awarded an Achievement of Company Excellence Award for her participation on this project. She was the lead for the Health and Safety Committee's company newsletter.

Julie majored in Psychology in Industrial Organizations at the University of St. Thomas and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma at St. Paul College.
