The Department of Commerce provides information and assistance related to various forms of energy technologies.
One pathway to reaching Minnesota’s renewable energy goals is through clean energy technologies. We provide information and resources for those seeking to purchase or install clean energy systems, including solar, wind, bioenergy, fuel cells, and heat pumps. Whether searching for basic knowledge about clean energy systems, looking for links to installers or industry groups, or seeking funding options, we offer information for homeowners, businesses, schools, local governmental units, and nonprofits.
The Department of Commerce also provides objective analysis and technical assistance to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.
We advocate for the public interest in proceedings before the Commission, including rate cases, resource plans, and certificates of need, and advocate on behalf of Minnesota ratepayers in regional and federal matters. We also conduct the environmental review required for large energy projects in Minnesota, and provide technical expertise and assistance to the Commission regarding the siting and routing of large energy projects.
