Project Summary

Great River Energy (applicant) proposes to provide electric service to a proposed crude oil pumping station (pump station) located approximately 2.75 miles south/southwest of Backus, Minnesota.

The applicant proposes to construct approximately 2.5 miles of new 115 kV overhead electric transmission line from the proposed pump station westward to the existing Minnesota Power "#142" 115 kV electric transmission line, and is requesting a 200 foot wide route for the project with a wider route width near the pump station.

The applicant indicates that the new 115 kV electric transmission line will require a 100 foot right-of-way (easement) with a wider width in select locations to accommodate guy wires and anchors. The transmission line structures will be 60 to 90 feet in height, with a span length between structures of 350 and 400 feet.

Construction of the project would begin after all permits are obtained, with an anticipated in-service date of spring 2017.
