Kathleen Finnegan Lamey serves as General Counsel for the Department of Commerce. In this role, she oversees all of the Department’s legal functions, which include 20 different regulated areas such as insurance, financial institutions, banking and energy.
Prior to her position at Commerce, Finnegan Lamey worked as an Assistant Ramsey County Attorney for nearly a decade. She worked closely with the public and various stakeholders to ensure that children and families received support from both parents while raising their children and had the proper medical benefits under eligibility requirements. She has presented at national and regional conferences, and was responsible for following all of the changes in health care law regarding Medical Assistance, MNsure, the Affordable Care Act and new health care legislation.
Prior to joining Ramsey County, Finnegan Lamey handled complex civil litigation and class action cases representing consumers, and she worked at Ralph Lauren as an attorney in their human resources department.
Finnegan Lamey graduated from Colgate University, earned her J.D. from Mitchell Hamline Law School and received a Master’s in Public Affairs from the University of Minnesota Humphrey School.
Finnegan Lamey is also very active in nonprofit leadership and governance roles. She has served on the Hennepin Health Foundation board since 2009, and is currently serving a two-year term as Chair. She has also been on the board of Mounds Park Academy since 2015, and she volunteers for the preservation of the Stillwater Historic Courthouse.
