Assistant Commissioner of Division of Energy Resources
Curtis Zaun is the Assistant Commissioner of Division of Energy Resources at the Minnesota Department of Commerce. In this role he is responsible for providing oversight and legal advice to the Division, and serving as a liaison between unit managers, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, the Deputy Commissioner and Department management. He also directly supervises the Energy Environmental Review and Analysis, Telecommunications and Energy Assistance units, and Broadband Development Office.
Prior to serving as Assistant Commissioner, Curtis was serving as Assistant General Counsel for the Department. In this role he provided legal advice to all divisions within the Department. Before coming to the Department in May of 2014, Curtis was in private practice for several years, including over 10 years at student loan finance company where he served as Senior Counsel. Curtis began his career at the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and also clerked for the Honorable Thomas Kalitowski at the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
Curtis received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Hamline University in 1999, a law degree from Hamline University School of Law in 1996, and a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell College in 1993. At Hamline he served as the President of the Alumni Board of Directors, Managing Editor of the Hamline Journal of Public Law and Policy, and Vice President of the Environmental Law Society.
