In order to address the racial disparities that exist across the board for Minnesotans of African Heritage in Minnesota, the Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage will advocate and address policy solutions that fall under six key policy focus areas. By addressing each of these key areas with an equitable, holistic and multi-generational lens we hope to ensure a continuous path to economic, social and educational prosperity and vitality for the African Heritage community in the state of Minnesota.

During the 2019 legislative session the Council of Minnesotans of African Heritage plans to advocate for and advance the following legislative priorities in collaboration with organizations led by community Minnesotans of African heritage.
- African American Family Preservation Act
- Restoration of Voting Rights
- Black Immigration
