NOTICE:  2019 Minnesota Legislative Session Updates 
Legislation enacted during the 2019 Regular & Special Sessions of the Minnesota Legislature contained a number of provisions that will have an impact on Board of Medical Practice licensees.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Fee Increase for Criminal Background Check
Minnesota Statute § 214.075 requires that all new applicants for licensure must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check (CBC). Effective January 1, 2019, the fee for the required criminal background check will increase to 33.25. Applications received on or after this date must include the $33.25 CBC fee. Please contact the CBC office to make an appointment after receipt of the CBC information packet. Please see the CBC website at https://mn.gov/boards/cbc/ for more details.

Effective September 19, 2018,  Cheryl Bailey, M.D.,  has been appointed to the Board as a physician member, Board term September 19, 2018 through January 4, 2021.  Dr. Bailey replaces Mark Eggen, M.D.   Hugh Renier, M.D., FAAFP, was appointed to the Board  as a physician member , Board term September 19, 2018 through January 3, 2022.  Dr. Renier replaces Jon Thomas, M.D., M.B.A.    John (Jake) Manahan, J.D., and Stuart Williams, J.D., have been appointed as public members to the Board, Board term September 19, 2018 through January 3, 2022.  Mr. Manahan replaces V. John Ella, J.D., and Mr. Williams replaces Kelli Johnson, Ph.D.      

Boards Adopt Joint Statement on the Prescribing of Opioid Antagonists
The Boards of Medical Practice, Nursing and Pharmacy have collaboratively developed and adopted a Joint Statement on the Prescribing of Opioid Antagonists in response to the increasing use, misuse and overdose deaths related to opioids.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  Mandatory Criminal Background Check for Athletic Trainer Initial Licensure
Minnesota Statute § 214.075 requires that all new applicants for licensure must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check (CBC).  The Board of Medical Practice will begin implementing mandatory CBCs for all athletic trainers applying for initial licensure on or after July 1, 2018.  Applications received on or after this date must include the $32 CBC fee.   
 
NOTICE:  Minnesota Prescription Monitoring Program Prescriber Education Sessions

The Minnesota Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) is offering education sessions throughout Minnesota to prescribers of controlled substances.  Continuing education credits are available at NO COST to attendees.  

Minnesota Statute § 214.075 requires that all new applicants for licensure must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check. 
 
Mandatory PMP Registration
The following statutory amendment to the Minnesota Prescription Monitoring Program becomes effective on August 1, 2016 and applies to Minnesota licensed physicians and physician assistants: Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 152.126, subdivision 6(c).
