What are the main points of the law?

The law primarily requires that:

1. Minnesota-based dental laboratories register with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry

2. Labs providing dental prostheses to dentists in Minnesota provide documentation of

a. all materials contained in the laboratory product, and

b. the place of origin of the materials and the elements of the product
What format must be used for the material content disclosure?

There is no required form or format, only a requirement that the information contain a complete disclosure of the materials used, and that it be provided in a way that can be incorporated into the patient record.
What is meant by “complete disclosure?”

The Board is expecting that complete disclosure will provide a list of every material, stain, etc. that is contained in a dental lab product that will be placed in a patients mouth. The law further requires that the disclosure identify whether the individual products used are FDA approved.
Can my dental practice use a non-registered dental lab?

The statute requires that dental practices in Minnesota use dental labs that are registered with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry if the lab is located in Minnesota. Dental labs in other states or countries may be used, but must still adhere to the regulations regarding disclosure.
How does my lab get registered in Minnesota?

Initial registration and renewals are done entirely online through the Boards website at https://www.hlb.state.mn.us/mnbod/GLSuiteWeb/Clients/MNBOD/Private/DentalLabApplication/Login.aspx.
