Minnesota law and Board policy now require that all applicants for initial license and continuing licensure must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check. The law requiring these background checks is Minn. Stat. § 214.075.
The Minnesota Health Licensing Boards have cooperatively established a Criminal Background Check Program to help you efficiently complete this mandatory background check. Please direct any questions you have about the background check process to Criminal Background Check Program staff, and not the Board.
The BCA will check your information against Minnesota criminal conviction records and the Minnesota Predatory Offender Registration database. The BCA will also forward your information to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where it will be checked for criminal conviction records throughout the nation. The results of these background checks will then be sent back to the Board for use in evaluating your qualifications for licensure. The Board will contact you directly if there are questions or if additional information is needed relating to your background check.
