Board Meetings

The Board's Complaint Committee meets in closed session after Board meetings.

Individuals with a disability who need a reasonable accommodation to participate in Board meetings, please contact Thora Fisko at 651-201-2821 or through the MN Relay Service at 1-800-627-3529.

Note: Occasionally it is necessary to change a meeting date, add or cancel a meeting. Changes will be posted on the Board's website as soon as possible.

Some barber members may participate electronically.

A sign-up sheet will be available for the public comments portion of the meeting. To be called to make a comment, sign up before the public comment section of the meeting. The Board will hear your comment but will not take action on public comment items at the meeting.

For action items, please complete a petition for rule variance request, click here for form, or contact the Board office at least 10 days prior to the meeting for your item to be included on the agenda.

Becoming a Board Member

Board members are appointed by the Governor to four year terms. The Board consists of five members: four barbers and one public member. Board members are not employees of the State and are compensated at a rate of $55.00 per day by expense reimbursement for Board meetings and Board activities.

To be appointed to the Board of Barber Examiners, barber members must have practiced as registered (master) barbers in Minnesota for at least five years immediately prior to their appointment. To apply for appointment to the Board, contact the Minnesota Secretary of State Office 651-297-5845 or visit the Open Commissions and Appointments page of the Secretary of State website. Vacancies are listed in the Open Appointments Press Release as they become available.
