DESCRIPTION:
Government-funded program (also known as Section 8 vouchers) that provides rental assistance to eligible seniors, singles, families, and persons with disabilities to secure affordable housing. This Housing Authority agency accepts applications to the program and issues the vouchers to qualified applicants. This agency also makes the approved rental subsidy payment to the landlord. Participants will pay approximately 30% of their income for rent and are able to take the voucher with them if they move.

The city of Mankato administers the federally funded Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program for both the city of Mankato and for the Blue Earth County Economic Development Authority (EDA) . Program participants receive a voucher that can be used to rent a unit in the private rental market. Program participants pay about 30% of their income toward their rent and utilities. Before assistance is paid, the unit is inspected to ensure it is safe, decent, and sanitary. The Mankato and Blue Earth County Economic Development Authorities currently serve about 500 families and individuals on the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
The city of Mankato also administers the Bridges Rental Assistance program for the Blue Earth County EDA.
