Eligibility

You can apply for unemployment insurance benefits as soon as you are unemployed or your hours are greatly reduced. After you submit an application, you will be notified by mail if you are eligible. Your appeal rights will be included in the notification.

The Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Program is administered by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, a state agency. The purpose of unemployment benefits is to provide a temporary partial wage replacement to help those unemployed through no fault of their own. This program also provides an opportunity to appeal a determination of benefits. Information about the appeals process can be found online.
