Housing and Redevelopment Authority - Low-Rent Public Housing

Eligibility

Public housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. Your eligibility is based on: 1) annual gross income; 2) whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a disability, or as a family; and 3) U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status. If you are eligible, the Housing Authority will check your references to make sure you and your family will be good tenants. Applicants must meet income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Check with your local office for specific income limits.

Application process

Contact the Housing Authority where you want to live to apply for public housing. Waiting lists for public housing can often be long or closed. This agency manages and operates the local public affordable housing program to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. MORE INFORMATION The Brainerd Housing and Redevelopment Authority owns and manages 203 units of public housing including the North Star Apartments, Scattered Sites, and Valley Trail, as well as manages 60 one- and two-bedroom apartments at Brainerd South and 20 two- and three-bedroom townhomes at Valley View.
