Respite provides care on a short-term basis for a person who cannot take care of themselves, and who is usually taken care of by a family member or friend. The service is designed to provide temporary coverage for the caregiver during an absence or need for relief. Learn more about this service when paid for under the waivers or the Alternative Care program in the Community-Based Services Manual. MORE INFORMATION Respite care is a short-term stay for seniors. Sample uses of respite care include: * A transition from hospital to home after surgery or a health setback * Caregiver relief (time away in order for rest and relaxation, business travel, household tasks, etc.) * Short-term stay for individuals who don't qualify for a Medicare Part A skilled care stay * Hospice A furnished apartment dedicated to respite care is available
