Description

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a Federal income supplement program designed to help aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income. It provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides monthly cash benefits to disabled workers who are fully insured under the program, who are not capable of substantial gainful work and who have completed a five month waiting period. Recipients may qualify for both programs at the same time, if the amount of SSDI benefits awarded are under the SSI income limits.
