DESCRIPTION: Legal aid program that offers legal counseling and/or representation for low-income individuals, typically in the areas of disability law, elder law and family law Free or low cost legal services help people who are unable to afford a lawyer get access to the court system. MORE INFORMATION Offers free law clinics and information sessions held throughout Dakota County: * Family law self-help centers are held several days each month * Consumer law clinics are held twice a month * Other clinics and sessions covering tax information, immigration, and criminal record expungement are held throughout the year Provides: * Free representation in court for Family Law cases, Consumer Law cases and other areas of civil law * Free legal advice for qualified low-income applicants * Free referral services to private attorneys practicing in relevant legal areas (who charge a fee) This agency does not handle criminal cases.

There is no fee for this service for those who qualify
Eligibility
Agency only represents people who live in Dakota County or people whose cases are in Dakota County and have been referred by the legal aid program in their own county. If you are low-income and have a legal case in Dakota County, but do not live in Dakota County, call the legal aid program in your own county. If you qualify for that program, that program will ask the agency to try to take your case. Legal services available to income eligible residents of Dakota County This agency does not handle criminal cases.
