Eligibility

Admission criteria for respite beds include the patient is:
  • Doctor's referral
  • Over 18
  • Homeless or at risk for homelessness
  • Is showing the potential for improvement or transition to long term housing if not medically fit for Churches United in Ministry (CHUM) or Loaves & Fishes
  • Not requiring more than minimal assistance with activities of daily living
  • Independent with medication management
  • Mentally stable to live alone
  • Does not require current inpatient drug/alcohol treatment program
  • Willing to come to the Medical Respite House
  • Following program rules and can participate in their own care
  • Able to climb stairs
  • No walkers or wheelchairs

Provides care for people experiencing homelessness who are too ill or frail to recover from an illness or injury on the streets or in a shelter, but who do not require hospital-level care.
  • Provides a supportive home environment, while fostering connections to community services
  • Average length of stay is 46 - 60 days
  • Provides 24/7 assistance, including meal support and guidance for securing stable housing
