Learn more about this service when paid for under waivers in the Community-Based Services Manual. MORE INFORMATION Help available in the event of a medical emergency When activated, the medical alert base station will automatically call the monitoring center where a certified emergency medical dispatchers can speak with the person, determine the situation, and dispatch Emergency Management Services (EMS) if needed. Preset personal contacts will also be notified right away. A Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) has 3 parts:
  • A small medical alert button that is usually worn as a pendant around the neck but can also be worn on the wrist like a watch or clipped to the waist like a pager or cell phone
  • A medical alert system base station that functions as a two-way speaker phone
  • A monitoring center that responds 24/7 when the button is pressed
