Eligibility

Public housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. Your eligibility is based on: 1) annual gross income; 2) whether you qualify as elderly, a person with a disability, or as a family; and 3) U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status. If you are eligible, the Housing Authority will check your references to make sure you and your family will be good tenants. Applicants must meet income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Check with your local office for specific income limits. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Low-income elderly - up to 80% of area median income. Income can be up to $34,800 for a single person; or up to $35,300 for a couple.

Contact the Housing Authority where you want to live to apply for public housing. Waiting lists for public housing can often be long or closed. Fees

Rents are based on 30% of adjusted gross income, after deducting cost of medical expenses OR a maximum rent of $546 for a 1-bedroom; $622 for a 2-bedroom.
