Legal aid program that offers legal counseling and/or representation for low-income individuals, typically in the areas of disability law, elder law and family law Free or low cost legal services help people who are unable to afford a lawyer get access to the court system. MORE INFORMATION Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid gives legal help to people in poverty and to people of any income level age 60 or older or living with disabilities. Legal aid services include: * Debt collection and unfair loans * Disability-related cases * Divorce when child custody is an issue * Domestic violence * Elder abuse * Housing discrimination and evictions * Immigration and citizenship * Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax issues * Denial and termination of public benefits * Youth seeking help from abuse and neglect Monthly senior wills clinics are held on the second Wednesday of the month * The events calendar shows upcoming clinics. * Call 612-334-5970 to make an appointment At the monthly Wills Clinics attorneys help with: * Allocation (wills) * Power of Attorney * Health Care Directives * Transfer on Death Deeds The Senior Law Project (SLP) provide civil legal services to adults 60+ with a focus on seniors with the greatest social and economic need. * Elder abuse * Assisted living and nursing home discharges * Public benefits - Food support - Cash assistance - Social Security - Unemployment denials - Public health insurance coverage such as Medical Assistance denials - Reduction of home care services - Debtor/creditor issues
