Higher Education
In higher education, the school must make sure that students with disabilities are not discriminated against and have
access to the right kind of
academic adjustments, if needed. Keep in mind that appropriate academic adjustments are based upon a person’s need and disability.
Examples of academic adjustments include:
- Allowing more time to take a test *
- Adjusting course work
- Sign language interpreters and,
- Assistive technology
Schools providing student housing must also include housing for students with disabilities similar to the housing that is offered to other students.
* [Reminder: Although the school is required to make academic adjustments, it does not have to lower its academic standards. This means that while the school may allow more time for you to take a test it does not have to change the test.]
