A T-Related Changes
There are four big A T-related changes for those entering higher education:
- No more IEPs! Academic adjustments and accommodations are made case by case.
- No more IEP meetings! You have to contact people to get support.
- You are now responsible for anticipating your A T needs in class and on tests.
- You are now responsible for requesting accommodations and knowing the school's procedures and timelines for requesting accommodations.
There may be tasks that in the past someone has helped you complete. If you owned the right assistive technology, could you complete these on your own?
If you are completing the worksheet as you go through the module, take some time now to complete Step 2. In the section “Items not listed” you can list:
- Tasks not included in Step 1 of the worksheet or
- A T that you feel may help you in college.
Take a look at your A T inventory. For the items you marked "someone helps me do this", consider whether or not you can complete these tasks on your own with the right assistive technology.
You may have specific tasks that you need help doing that were not covered when you created your A T inventory. Go to your A T worksheet and list any additional tasks you need to complete.
