The presumptive sentence for any offender convicted of a felony committed on or after May 1, 1980, is determined by the Sentencing Guidelines in effect on the date of the conviction offense. If multiple offenses are an element of the conviction offense, the date of the conviction offense must be determined by the fact finder. If offenses have been aggregated, the date of the earliest offense should be used as the date of the conviction offense. The majority of previous Guidelines have an effective date starting August 1st of that year, and are in effect until August 1st of the next calendar year. The effective date can be found on the cover page of every previous Guidelines.
