Tips for your computer:

• Use antivirus protection
• Use a personal firewall
• Keep all applications, including your operating system, patched
• Turn off your computer or disconnect from the network when not in use
• Make regular backups of critical data   

Tips for you:

• Don't open unknown email attachments
• Use strong passwords
• Don't share your passwords
• Never key in personal information (i.e. username & password, SSN, bank account information, etc) into a website that looks suspicious
• If you receive an email from your bank, credit card company, or something similar requesting that you log into the linked site, within the email, and change your password, DON'T!
