Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) includes the people, processes and products to detect and prevent events that may damage the State's information resources.  As a service offered by OET, intrusion detection is the process of monitoring and/or blocking events occurring in a computer system and network; analyzing them for signs of possible incidents that are violations or imminent threats of violation of computer security policies, acceptable use policies or standard security practices.  Intrusion prevention is the process of performing intrusion detection and attempting to stop detected possible incidents.

Deploying the IDP monitoring solution on your network will assure you are in compliance with security monitoring standards, and aligned with industry best practices. This is a cost-effective solution as buying into this shared service allows for lower incremental costs.
