Managing Information Resources as Valuable Assets Policy

Agencies and information resource communities shall manage information resources and associated facilities as valuable assets critical to fulfilling their missions. Agencies and information resource communities shall apply appropriate management controls to their information resources just as they do to their human, equipment, facilities, material, and financial resources. Agencies and information resource communities shall plan, organize, measure, control and share their information resources to optimize their effectiveness while minimizing costs to those with a stake in the design and use of particular information resources. Agencies and information resource communities shall manage their information resources to assure compliance with statutory requirements on public access to data, rights of subjects of government data, and records management.
