MISSSOURI

To hear people talk about what I dream about for my child was great. I have so much information and my horizons have broadened to include so much more. It's scary, sobering, and thrilling.

Partners has enabled me to continually search, for knowledge and with that knowledge I hope to become a catalyst for change.

Beyond the confidence and knowledge you come away with, there are the true partnerships.

I take this opportunity to say thank you for letting me be a part of Partners in Policymaking graduation weekend. It was a weekend I will keep in my heart for a very long time.

- Jesse Jones III

Graduates of the 2005 class of Partners in Policymaking in Missouri offered these reflections on their Partners experience:

I am a self advocate, a parent of a child with a disability, and I have a brother-in-law with a disability. I learned a lot from Partners, not only for myself but for the Joplin Area People First Chapter of which I am a member. I have used my knowledge to help parents as an IMPACT (Missouri Parents Act) mentor. I am also researching and increasing my knowledge of Medicare, housing, and other areas as a result of Partners. I feel I an a stronger advocate for disabilities issues now. I would recommend Partners in Policymaking to self advocates or parents.

- Diana Willard

I met a lot of great people at Partners. At first I did not want to participate, as I thought it would be too difficult. But the more I participated in Partners the more I enjoyed it. I learned about different laws related to disabilities, housing, employment, and other important topics. I think it is very important for people with disabilities to get more involved with Partners.

- Jess Hodgson

Partners in Policymaking was wonderful with excellent speakers. You learn so much about what disability really means. A lot of interesting information was presented, including such things as the history of developmental disabilities, people first language, family supports, assistive technology, and how to talk with legislators. I was happy to be part of Partners this year and would recommend it to anyone.

- Greg Griffin

Partners gave me the opportunity to increase my knowledge and skills that will assist me in advocating for my son and others with disabilities. Equally important I have made friendships with my fellow partners that will last a lifetime.
