The Next Generation of Leadership Millennium Summit

For the fifth consecutive year, the President's Committee on Mental Retardation (PCMR) will convene a meeting of young leaders in the field of developmental disabilities to discuss strategies and build skills for improving the lives of citizens with intellectual disabilities, and to enhance career and educational opportunities for those who support them.

The Next Generation of Leadership Millennium Summit will take place Thursday, August 17 through Saturday, August 19, 2000 at the Washington Court Hotel in Washington, D.C. Approximately 200 participants are expected to attend. The conference will concentrate on three tracks:

  • Preparing for Your Career of the Future
  • Tackling Emerging Policy Issues
  • Skills for the Workplace, Skills for Life.

Participants will produce policy recommendations around workforce development issues for broad dissemination throughout the field. See The President's Committee on Mental Retardation web site for more information.

The GCDD is funded under the provisions of P.L. 106-402. The federal law also provides funding to the Minnesota Disability Law Center,the state Protection and Advocacy System, and to the Institute on Community Integration, the state University Center for Excellence. The Minnesota network of programs works to increase the IPSII of people with developmental disabilities and families into community life.
