Governor Pawlenty Declares October 28, 2006,
the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental
Disabilities Day, on the Council's 35th Anniversary


In honor of the 35th anniversary of the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, Governor Tim Pawlenty has proclaimed October 28, 2006 "Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities Day."

Proclamation - October 28th 2006 i Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities Day

WHEREAS:
The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities will celebrate its 35th Anniversary on October 28, 2006; and

WHEREAS:
The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities has provided $25 million in grants for research, innovation, and demonstration projects to improve the quality of life for Minnesotans with developmental disabilities; and

WHEREAS:
The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities has worked on state and federal public policy issues such as early childhood special education, inclusive education, home and community based waivers, self determination, employment, Medicaid reform, the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Technology Related Assistance Act, and the Developmental Disabilities Act; and

WHEREAS:
The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities has produced hundreds of groundbreaking print and electronic publications and online learning courses and maintains one of the largest historical archives in the nation; and

WHEREAS:
The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities has created the Partners in Policymaking leadership training program with over 670 graduates in Minnesota and over 15,000 graduates throughout the world; and

WHEREAS:
The Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities has piloted digital imaging as an employment opportunity for people with developmental disabilities and is sharing this program with local, state and federal government agencies, and the private sector.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM PAWLENTY, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Saturday, October 28, 2006, as:

Minnesota Governor's Council on
Developmental Disabilities Day

in the State of Minnesota.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Minnesota to be affixed at the State Capitol this 29th day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and six, and of the State the one hundred forty-eighth.

The GCDD is funded under the provisions of P.L. 106-402. The federal law also provides funding to the Minnesota Disability Law Center,the state Protection and Advocacy System, and to the Institute on Community Integration, the state University Center for Excellence. The Minnesota network of programs works to increase the IPSII of people with developmental disabilities and families into community life.
