Security required by Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act regulations, or HIPPA, requires that employee medical information is secure and protected from unauthorized viewing through accessed only with authorization. Software for digital files creates password a protected file and records all who view or change the file information. Compared to files left out in the open and available to anyone who passes by, this is an important layer of security.

The GCDD is funded under the provisions of P.L. 106-402. The federal law also provides funding to the Minnesota Disability Law Center,the state Protection and Advocacy System, and to the Institute on Community Integration, the state University Center for Excellence. The Minnesota network of programs works to increase the IPSII of people with developmental disabilities and families into community life.
