Mailman is the Email list management software used by Minnesota Management & Budget that is designed to manage larger customer e-mail databases. The lists managed on Mailman are intended for state agency use only. Members of the general public will not be subscribed to these lists. Each list has built in security to protect the lists members and distribution. Users will benefit from this service by having access to archived messages, email distribution to an entire list with approval from a list Administrator, and access to self-subscribed or unsubscribed membership to any of the lists.
How to Use Mailman
If you are a member of a state agency and wish to be subscribed to a distribution list, click on the list you would like to be subscribed to from the 'Lists of Lists' page. You will then be prompted to enter your name and email address. Once you submit your name and email, it will be sent to the list Administrator for approval. You will be notified if you have been accepted or rejected from the list.
If you want to send an email to a certain list, click on the designated list from the 'Lists of Lists' page
A mailing list is a list of email addresses that is used by a mailing list server that will, when an email is sent to a specific address, forward that email to everyone who has subscribed to that particular mailing list. It is a communication tool that offers list members the opportunity to post suggestions, questions, comments or information to a large number of people at the same time by simply sending an email.
Lists can be either moderated or unmoderated. An unmoderated list automatically forwards each posting (email) to everyone on the list. A moderated list holds each posting for a moderator's approval prior to forwarding it to list members. At Minnesota Management & Budget we use moderated lists almost exclusively.
