Governor Dayton has proclaimed July as “Hire a Veteran Month” in Minnesota. This unique proclamation is intended to create awareness of the talent and character employers will find when they hire Veterans.
Minnesota is home to more than 370,000 Veterans, and over 60,000 Minnesotans have served on active duty since 9/11. These men and women understand commitment and accomplishing goals. They are mature and have the dedicated work ethic most employers seek.
Veterans are trained in a fast paced environment and possess technical skills that are transferable to civilian careers. In addition, Veterans have the soft skills that cannot be learned from reading a text book. They have led and have been led. They have been responsible for thousands and even millions of dollars worth of equipment and even more importantly, human lives. They are resourceful and have the capability to make decisions in complex and stressful environments.
One highlight of “Hire a Veteran Month” is the Veteran Job Fair on Tuesday July 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Earle Brown Center in Brooklyn Center. The Minnesota Veterans Career Fair is free and open to all military Veterans, regardless of the era of their service.
Veterans: There will be over 125 employers in attendance - ready to hire you! Additionally, there will be a resource room staffed with human resource professionals ready to review resumes, lead workshops on searching for a job and providing overviews of online job-search tools to help Veterans find quality employment. You will find a list of employers, directions to the Earle Brown Center and information to help you prepare for a successful career fair located at PositivelyMinnesota.com/Veterans.
