New Study on Twin Cities Region’s Racial Disparities Provides Further Evidence Of Need For Action To Eliminate Disparities

ST. PAUL, MN – A new report suggests that race and ethnicity – not other demographic differences – are driving the disparities of the Twin Cities metropolitan region, particularly between white and black Minnesotans (born in and outside the U.S.).

Governor Dayton Appoints James C. Burroughs II as Chief Inclusion Officer for State of Minnesota

ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Governor Mark Dayton announced the appointment of James C. Burroughs II as Chief Inclusion Officer for the State of Minnesota. In this role, Burroughs will oversee the State of Minnesota’s efforts to ensure: (1) that the state’s workforce reflects the rich diversity of Minnesota by increasing economic opportunity for people of color, people with disabilities, and others underrepresented in our workforce; (2) increasing state contracting opportunities for racially diverse businesses; and (3) increasing the state’s civic engagement and partnerships with communities of color and other diverse communities. Burroughs brings over 20 years of experience in diversity and inclusion, non-profit management, and employment law. He has led equity and diversity efforts for educational institutions, public entities, and private sector employers.

Report Highlights Gains, Challenges to Improving Diversity and Inclusion in State Government

Council Working to Enhance Diversity and Inclusion in State Government

ST. PAUL, MN - A new report issued today by the Governor's Diversity and Inclusion Council (https://mn.gov/governor/assets/2015_07_01_diversity_and_inclusion_council_report_tcm1055-114828.pdf) updates policymakers on the Council's work to improve diversity in the state's workforce and business supplier chain, and more equitably engage diverse people, communities, and businesses in the work of state government. The report describes the Council's plans to enhance diversity in the workplace, improve access to state government contracts for minority-owned businesses, and actively engage diverse communities in developing state policies.
