File a Complaint

What Happens Next

Department staff determine whether your complaint is covered by the Minnesota Human Rights Act. If your complaint is covered by the Act, staff draft a charge of discrimination and mail it to you. You must have your signature notarized on the charge form and return it to the department for filing within the one year period allowed for filing. The one year begins running from the date of the alleged discriminatory act.

If your complaint is not covered by the Act, there is no filing.

To learn more about the department's charge filing process read the Charging Party Guidelines and the MDHR Charge Handling Process.
