Work on the Sundell Eye Associates expansion in Virginia, Minn. is underway. In October 2012, a ground breaking ceremony was held for a new, full-service Ophthalmic Medical Clinic and Ophthalmology Specific Ambulatory Surgery Center. To date, the foundation and slab for the new clinic have been poured, and a June completion date is targeted.
Construction on the new surgery center will begin as soon as weather conditions allow. Officials project that both the clinic and surgery center will be completed by the end of 2013.
Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) supported the expansion project with $300,000 in grants to the City of Virginia. Funds are being used for infrastructure and site work for the new facilities. The total project cost is $2,345,000.
This expansion is projected to create 12 construction jobs, 12 permanent jobs and one optometrist position.
