What is health reform? The term health reform includes policies and partnerships to improve health and lower health care costs. Minnesota has a long history of reform and, most recently, in 2008, we passed a state health reform law that improves community health, patient experience, and affordability of health care in Minnesota. In 2010, federal health reform (the Affordable Care Act) became law, providing additional tools for Minnesota to cover the uninsured, build the health care workforce, prevent illness, and contain health care costs. Throughout this website, the term health reform includes both state and federal laws and policies.

Minnesota Passes Health Care Homes Milestone
Health reform is about much more than just improving insurance coverage, increasing access to care, and lowering costs. One of the biggest reforms is changing the way we deliver care so that it better meets the needs of patients. The development of health care homes is helping to make this reform happen. As a physician and the Commissioner of Health, I am impressed at the way Minnesota clinics are leading the nation with their efforts to improve care for patients by embracing health care homes and taking a team approach to care.
