The Minnesota Board of Optometry simplified the recording of Continuing Education (CE) for the Minnesota license renewal. The CE Sponsors for Minnesota OD’s are now required to validate the OD’s participation in CE by either:

1) requesting course approval from the Council of Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE). As an OD, remind those CE vendors of the importance of sending in documentation of your attendance directly to OE Tracker to have it added to your OE Tracker.
2) requesting course approval from the Minnesota Board of Optometry.

For either method of CE approval, the sponsor will validate OD participation and send it electronically directly to the OE Tracker system, which is uploaded in three to five work days by the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry, (ARBO).

OE Tracker and Annual License Renewal Requirements

The OE Tracker CE is synchronized (via your unique OE Tracker number) with your Minnesota license number during the renewal period of October 15 to December 31 of each renewal cycle.  When renewing, the Minnesota OD will be able to review all completed CE for the online renewal.   When utilizing OE Tracker, you will not be required to keep any paper certificates or enter your individual CE on the MBO website. The license renewal is completed in less than five minutes. The Board believes this to be an efficient approach for all O.D’s and will reach the goal of 100% auditing of all submittedcontinuing education.

  Enrollment in OE Tracker

Enrollment in OE Tracker (https://www.arbo.org/oetracker.html‎) provides year round access and individual CE can be sent in by the Optometrist.  There is a $20 fee to enroll  and to track your individual CE history year round and enjoy an easy method to manage your CE. If you are not an OE subscriber, the OE Tracker record review will only be available during the actual processing of your Minnesota license renewal. The board believes that OE Tracker will save you valuable time by eliminating the need to prepare and submit electronic and/or paper records.

The option to manually enter individual CE on the MBO website is no longer available.

  FAQ’s

Locate the FAQ’s on the top tab bar for more answers and please contact the board office with any questions you have.  We will work to resolve any remaining questions.

  • OE Tracker Policy Change - July 2014

(COPE) Beginning July 1, 2014, optometrists who pay their OE TRACKER Annual Subscription Fee will receive unlimited CE certificate uploads for CE hours that are not listed in their account. Once they have paid the fee, optometrists can fax or e-mail their CE certificates to ARBO and we will upload them into their OE TRACKER account.

ARBO encourages all CE providers to send CE attendance from their events into ARBO for direct uploading into OE TRACKER. We have several methods available for CE providers to use to submit attendance from their CE events. We will upload the attendance into OE TRACKER at NO cost to the CE provider or the optometrist if it is submitted using a spreadsheet, scanner, or the OE TRACKER mobile app. We are currently contacting CE providers to make sure they are aware of the change and to remind them of how they can send attendance electronically.

To send copies of the certificates of attendance to be entered into OE Tracker:  Either scan, mail or fax them to:
    Fax: 704-970-2720
    Email:  arbo@arbo.org
    Phone Number 704-970-2710
Mailing Address:  Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry, 200 South College Street, Suite 2030, Charlotte, NC.  28202

  • Minnesota CE Recording Requirements

The Minnesota Board of Optometry worked to streamline the method by which you will be reporting your Continuing Education (CE) for license renewal. Sponsors who provide CE to Minnesota ODs will now be required to validate your participation in CE by either: 1) requesting course approval from Council of Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) or 2) by requesting course approval from the Minnesota Board of Optometry.  For either method of CE approval, the sponsor will validate your participation and send it electronically to the OE Tracker system, coordinated by the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry, (ARBO).

The OE Tracker CE is synchronized (via the unique OE Tracker number) with the Minnesota OD license number during the renewal period of October 15 to December 31 of each renewal cycle.  When renewing the Minnesota license, the OD will be able to review all completed CE clock hours which is also categorized within certain not to exceed limits (i.e. practice management, volunteer services) during the online renewal.   When utilizing OE Tracker, the OD will not be required to keep any paper certificates or enter individual CE on the MBO website.  Renewal is typically completed in less than five minutes. The Board believes this to be an efficient approach for all O.D’s and will help the board reach the goal of 100% auditing of all CE submitted.

  • Enrollment in OE Tracker

Enrollment in OE Tracker is open to all optometrists and allows the OD to review both COPE or MN Board approved, (listed as NON-COPE) during your renewal. There is a $20 fee for COPE if you wish to see the detail of the continuing education year round. If not an OE subscriber, the OE Tracker record review will only be available during the actual processing of your Minnesota license renewal.

The board believes that OE Tracker will save valuable time by eliminating the need to prepare and submit electronic and/or paper records.

For the new CE cycle beginning January 1, 2014, the board will require online license renewal and the use of OE Tracker to record all approved CE.
