General Merchandise Storage Bond
Sample Irrevocable Letter of Credit (sent on request of applicant). A Letter of Credit or Certificate of Deposit or other negotiable instrument can be filed instead of the required bond.
*Warehouse operators who DO NOT store household goods may substitute legal liability insurance of $50,000, or more, in place of a general merchandise storage bond.
Application of General Merchandise Storage License
Check in payment of required fee(s)
General merchandise storage bond, a voided warehouse receipt, and a tariff, if applicable.
*Only the storage of household goods requires the filing of a tariff.
If you store household goods, a General Merchandise Storage Bond in the amount of at least $10,000 (per city) must be issued and a tariff must be filed.
If you do not store household goods, $50,000 warehouseman's legal liability insurance may be filed in place of the General Merchandise Storage Bond. No tariff is required.
A license is required for each city that a company conducts a general merchandise storage operation.

Length of Determination Process:
4 days to 4 months.

A transmittal letter, which spells out requirements, is sent to all general merchandise storage license applicants, along with the licensing forms.
