St. Paul—Today Department of Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson issued the following statement on Minnesota’s social mobility ranking:
“This ranking shows Minnesota is a place where the dream that children can do even better than their parents is realized,” said Commissioner Lucinda Jesson. “It is both a validation of Minnesota’s strong social tradition and a spur for us to continue our work making a better Minnesota.”
In the landmark new study from Harvard University, Minnesota ranked second nationally behind Iowa in the number of counties in which children's income is far higher than their parents.
