Own Your Future at the 2013 Minnesota State Fair

Own Your Future asked 2,583 state fair attendees about their retirement and long-term care planning concerns at the 2013 state fair.  This is the seventh time the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Minnesota Board on Aging have conducted a survey of state fairgoers on these concerns since 1998.  A total of 8 questions were asked and examples of the responses are included in this video.  The results are also described in this infograph.

Key findings

  1. Retirement concerns differ considerably by age and include both financial and health considerations.
  2. Age and income are the best predictors of what someone expects their main source of income to be in retirement.
  3. Many Minnesotans still do not have a long-term care plan.
  4. Nearly a third of Minnesotans have experience as a family caregiver.
  5. The majority of survey participants have not yet taken advantage of Own Your Future resources to aid in their long-term care planning.

Every year, DHS asks Minnesota State Fair-goers about their plans for how they will meet their long-term care needs. Long-term care is the care most of us will need in our later years. This video captures some of the answers to the 2013 survey questions.
