If you’re looking for a job and seeking an event that gives diverse professionals a chance to network, socialize and meet with employers, plan to attend the MLK Jr. Holiday Diversity Networking Career Fair. The event will take place on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 20, a federal holiday commemorating the life and achievements of the inspirational American civil rights leader.
"By hosting the event on MLK Day we not only hope to increase participation among local job seekers, but also to celebrate the values of equality Dr. King so compellingly expressed in his dream for America," said Mike Hall, executive vice president of Professional Diversity Network.
Employers from a wide range of fields including health care, education, financial services, government and professional organizations will be speaking with job seekers. Nearly 30 businesses, organizations and agencies to date are set to connect with job seekers at the event, with employers seeking workers for a wide variety of jobs.
Job seekers can attend a networking brunch where they’ll meet hiring managers in a more casual atmosphere.
Two seminars will be offered:
How to Network Your Candidate Brand. Learn from experts how to compete and use a network to land your next job. Get resources to help market yourself.
Interviewing to Get the Job. Hear what employers are really after when recruiting new workers. Bill Wells, former head of diversity for a Fortune 500 company, will present the session.
DEED, an event partner, will host a booth, where job seekers will receive information about MinnesotaWorks.net, Minnesota WorkForce Centers, veterans services and other career and employment resources. Listen for DEED-sponsored radio ads promoting the career fair on WCCO, today through Saturday, Jan. 18.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center, 1301 Second Ave. S. It’s free and open to all job seekers.
